A Vision Board

A vision board, or dream board, is a tool that helps you have a visual focus on what you want from your life.  It can relate to both work goals and personal achievements.

Many high-earning celebrities, such as Jim Carey and Oprah Winfrey and coaches like Jack Canfield, endorse vision boards.  So it’s not airy-fairy stuff that some seem to think it is.

Basically, a vision board is fairly large piece of card or cork-board, on which you stick, or pin, images or words that represent what you want.  Some people have digital boards, displayed on their phones, laptops etc.  That’s fine too!

You can use images from magazines, your own photos, images from the internet, your own drawings .. the list is not concise.  It can be a mix of any, or all of these.  Not matter what you may have been told, there are no fixed rules.

The images can be very specific, such as the house you would like to live, or the car you want to own, or they can be images that evoke a feeling, like a picture of someone meditating that makes you feel calm and peaceful.

Really, a vision board is a simple tool.  It’s all about having a visual motivation you need to fulfil your dreams and goals.

The dream boards suit all learning styles because there are no set rules on how they should look.

Vision boards work on the principle of the ‘law of attraction’.  When you surround yourself with images of who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live or holiday, who you want to be etc, your life is more likely to change to match those images and those desires.

If you make your board without conscious intention, it can make you realise what you truly want to experience in your life.  Vision boards add clarity to your desires and feeling to your visions.

Remember, though, you do have to take action towards achieving your hopes, dreams and desires too.

Vision boards do not replace your planners, to-do lists, files, computers, diary etc, these are the other tools you use to manage your days and your goals.  Vision boards serve as visual reminder of why you do what you do.
