What is aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the art and science of using plant oils in treatment. Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils, which are pure plant extracts, in body massage, bathing and air diffusion. Aromatherapy is an holistic treatment which involves treating the mind for mental and emotional well-being and treating the body for physical well-being.

Simply used for pleasure is often enough to trigger the body’s natural healing process.

Almost anyone can benefit from aromatherapy, including babies, young children, pregnant women and those receiving medical care, so long as advice is sought from a qualified aromatherapist.

How does Aromatherapy work?

Essential oils can be compared with hormones found in our bodies. Hormones are chemicals travelling around our bodies, effecting certain organs. True essential oils have tiny aromatic molecules which have the ability to penetrate the skin and into body tissue and the blood stream. The molecules act by replicating our hormones and either stimulate or rebalance, sensing where there is a hormone imbalance. Skin absorbtion is complemented by the inhalation of the molecules, diffused into the blood stream through your breath. Aromatherapy essential oils have one or more of the following properties: antiseptic, antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial. They are also eubiotic (for life) as apposed to antibiotic (against life). Aromatherapy generally combines well with most complementary therapies and prescribed conventional medicines and treatments. Aromatherapy is a wonderful and valuable therapy for relaxing, de-stressing, uplifting and detoxifying the body!
